The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has cautioned Nigerian youths, particularly the students not to dive into the world of internet headlong, warning that it is a double edged knife that can cause as much harm as it can develop the horizon of the youths.

NCC said the best approach to internet is to tag along the guidance of the people who have garnered much experience in the internet world.

NCC’s advice was contained in a passionate pep talk by the commission’s Director, Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management (DCPSRM) Abigail Solanke, to the students and teachers of Brookstone International Foundation School, Abuja when they visited the Commission’s Head Office, in Abuja today.

Solanke backed her pep talk up with a tour of the commission’s museum where the students were exposed to artifacts of the evolution of telecommunications.

She further let them into the regulatory activities  of the Commission, enlightening them on what the Commission has been doing to protect telecom consumers of all ages.

According to Solanke, “the Educational Visit Programme is one of the key initiatives designed by the Commission to impart knowledge to the students, who are younger generation of telecom users on the evolutionary trends of telecommunication in Nigeria.”

She noted that such a visit  also provides an opportunity for the Commission to enlighten the students on cybercrimes and other risks in the cyberspace, such as cyberbullying, cyberstalking in order ensure that the children are protected while online.

Solanke said while children from many schools had been hosted on such educational visit, the Commission is further poised to welcome more students from other schools across the country.
