MoU: Methanol production implementation will change fortunes of Nigeria- Abdullahi

The Minister of state for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, has said that implementation of the Methanol production technology will significantly change the fortunes of Nigeria.

Abdullahi expressed the optimism recently when the Federal Government signed a memorandum of understanding, MoU, with an Israeli firm, DOR Group of companies for implementation of the Methanol production technology.

He noted that the Methanol Technology will expand the chemical industry value-chain, replace kerosene as household cooking fuel and contribute to efficient and effective transportation.

He listed other advantages of the Methanol production technology as climate change mitigation and improvement in electricity generation, aside from diversifying and growing the economy.

The Minister also said that the policy will create an enabling environment for more investment in the oil and gas sector and bring about an end to gas flaring in Nigeria.

Also in his own remarks, the Chief Operating Officer of DOR Group, Prof. Vincent Asor assured that the firm will do its utmost to fulfill its own side of the bargain.

He added that quality and efficient engineering for which Israeli firms are well known would be brought to bear in the implementation of the agreement.

The people that signed the MoU on behalf of the Federal Government include Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; the Minister of State, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi, together with the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Bello Umar signed the MOU while Asor signed on behalf of DOR Group of Israel.

The event was witnessed by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the state of Israel, Mr. Yotam Kreiman and Florence Osuji, Senior Economic Officer.
