Online media key to ICT development in Nigeria, says NCC

…pledges continuous collaboration

Recorganising the critical roles the online media play in information dissemination across the globe, the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, has pledged support and continuous collaboration to Nigerian online journalists covering Information and Communications Technology, ICT.

The newly appointed Director Public Affairs of the NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, made the commitment today while speaking to online journalists that report the sector in a virtual meeting.

Adinde who said that the meeting was organized to foster a relationship between the Commission and its reporters especially on the online platform noted that online media plays a critical role in disseminating the actions of the NCC.

He emphasized that 90 percent of the people that the Commission communicates with are online and urged the journalists to assist extend the reach of what NCC is doing to the rural communities.

He said: “NCC is the foremost telecommunications regulator in Africa. It prides itself with the culture of improvement. So, we value the media as our partners and will continually move together to take the sector to an enviable height.

“I am mindful of your track record and output over the years, they are everywhere. We want to continue the cordial relationship, thereby improving the mutual interest of our stakeholders.”

Adinde added that: “Before the end of the year, we will plan a workshop for the online media journalists to improve their knowledge of the sector.”

Recall that the Commission also had a similar meeting with the National Information and Technology Reporter Association, NITRA, where it also promised strong alliance to them.

He noted that the commission under the leadership of Prof. Umar Danbatta is willing to partner with members of NITRA not only in taking the telecom sector to enviable heights but play a key role in protecting the rights of telecom consumers through the various media organization to reach a wider member of the public.
